Packaging & Branding: Multi-Pack
This is a mock-up that reimagines the packaging for Kleenex Brand On-the-Go facial tissue packs. The use of cellophane packaging that does not re-seal results in a less than satisfactory experience of the brand and product. This new card stock based packaging re-seals easily and efficiently, while also being environmentally friendly recyclable material.
Branding & packaging with a social cause
Creating a multi-pack, a brand, branding design, manufacturing patterns, and tweaking die cuts were all part of the process for Bad Banana Juice Co. This brand is paired with a social cause: ending food waste. The practice of disposing of fruits and vegetables whose only flaw is in their aesthetics is widespread in the United States. Grocery stores’ produce sales perform better if their product looks perfect and flawless. Unfortunately, this means that tons of bruised or scratched produce finds its way to the trash every day. The End Food Waste campaign works with grocery stores to collect marred produce still fit for consumption and donates it to companies who will use unwanted produce.
Bad Banana Juice Company will use bruised, unsellable produce to create juice, a healthy addition to anyone’s diet. Juice cleanses enjoy untethered popularity today, and nobody minds what the produce looks like when it goes into a juicer. This four-pack is a starter cleanse of juices.
This four-pack of juices needed a carrier to make it easy for customers to select a cleanse set from a refrigerator unit in any Bad Banana store or local grocery store. Finding a four-pack carrier was harder than it sounds, and instead, a six-pack carrier template was modified to fit the dimensions of four juice bottles chosen to hold the juice.
The bad banana logo was a sketch composite of various cartoon faces, and the carrier’s pattern is from a sketch of a banana peel. Colors chosen are based on the white, yellow and brown of a banana, with purple used to accent the bruises. The juice bottle labels carry the same pattern as the carrier, and an ingredient list on the front varies in color per each juice recipe.
The carrier template, once designed, was printed on white card stock paper, cut and glued together. The juice bottle labels were printed and glued to the bottles. The overall brand is meant to convey a silly, fun feel to a product doing serious work to eliminate food waste and provide consumers with essential nutrients. Doing good for themselves and the environment never tasted so good!
